Our Approach to Action Therapy
Action Therapy Winnipeg @ RISE Counselling & Consulting is an approved Jordan’s Principle provider.
Here we strive to keep the fire burning bright in young people nurturing them so that the fire within can not only be maintained but thrive. We incorporate an Indigenous lens, emphasizing the importance of relationship that is guided by trying to assist young people in achieving balance through the medicine wheel. We also use the Circle of Courage framework to help young people achieve a sense of belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity. As action therapy is based on integrating young people in a positive way within their communities, we ensure that our action therapists have community Elder supervision, and are active members of their communities as well. Action therapists are also supervised by a registered social worker and have been screened through criminal record and child abuse registry checks.
Action therapy helps youth and children holistically through connection to their communities and the social world around them. Through action, children and youth improve their social and emotional wellbeing. Action therapists here are knowledge keepers who have experience working with young people of different age ranges. They are experienced in engaging young people through a gentle method that incorporates compatible two-eyed seeing approaches from a Western strengths-based perspective to build confidence and from an Indigenous perspective where emphasis is placed on the importance of relationship and balance. As a result, action therapists strive to create a strong and lasting bond with the young people to help nurture their fire within.
